AAF vs BBA

Time to put sumthing up here i gez. Have been thinkin bout this recently, should i opt for Business Administration and dump Accounting and Finance since it wont do me good xept the possible ACCA Chartered Accountancy designation which may bring me to anywhere in the world, and the possibilility of a Twinning Programme with The University of Queensland for Bachelor of Commerce.

Let the battle between AAF and BBA begin..
Or in a more professional accent, "let's do a CBA (cost benefit analysis)"

AAF Pros:
-Iron ricebowl (Close to impossible unemployment)
-Financial literacy (Jz like learning a language, biz language in this case)
-Know corporate laws and taxations (know it all in biz & company laws)
-Employment in any sector (accounting & finance depts are everywhere)
-Twinning to University of Queensland possible (with some 50k AUD of coz)
-Faculty's prestige (A first year avg of B for the nx batch onwards)
-Chartered Accountancy Designation (The ACCA in 1 yr after graduation)
-3 years work exp can be accumulated along the 4 years uni life.
-The ACCA title opens doors to overseas employment
-ACCA can lead to australian CPA, migration to aussie possible.
-Course packed with some kickass financial modules:
(Cost Accounting, Company Accounting n Reporting, Adv/Financial Reporting, Adv/Management Accounting, Biz Taxation, Auditing, Corporate Law, Biz Finance, Strategic Financial Management)
-Specialist degree

AAF Cons
-Boring! especially the 3yrs freakin supervised exp for chartered designation
-Counting, counting n counting...orelse, memorizing some laws..
-Oracles said guys studyin accounts will get sissy (jst like male-hairdressers)
-Have been to an audit firm, i think i wil never get to like it =p
-The course itself is filled with numbers, accounts, and laws
-Little options for other modules, limited to 3-4 max
-No general overview of other business operations
-Job scope limited to accounting and finance

The UBD Accounting and Finance course is definitely a kicker, with the 9 paper waiver from ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), a British accountancy body. Coming batches need an average of B for the first year in order to major in accounting and finance, the fbeps hardcore course. But hell, what am i thinking trying to degrade myself into BBA? I entered AAF with 180points 2 subjects, compared to 160points 2 subjects for the BBA. Am i insane? Letting go an iron ricebowl and the ticket to overseas employment, the ACCA.

BBA Cons
-Unsecured employment (comparing to AAF of course)
-Not specialist degree + I'm not gona specialise, i'll design a general BBA.
-No accounting knowledge at all (xcept the basics)
-Lower prestige in terms of entry requirements compared to AAF
-Jack of All Trades. Master of None.
-No Accreditation bodies like the ACCA, CPA, AMBA etc
-The degree will hardly get any recognition beyond Brunei, unlike AAF+ACCA

Doesn't sound any good to me...except the possibility of doing an MBA in the future, i dont see much in this degree itself. Plus we dont know if some of the top MBA business schools out there know where Brunei is =p But let's finish this.

BBA Pros

-Interesting and Dynamic core course subjects:
(Marketing Management, Operations Management, IT Management, Biz Research n App, Consumer Behavior, Entrepreneurship n Biz Development.) At least not all numbers n laws
-General Broad overview of the entire business structure
-Able to roam into any departments of a business
-The plenty of option slots (8-9x compared to 3-4x in AAF)
-Availability of omoshiroi (interesting) options by fbeps
(Alien options like Small Biz Management, Retail Management, Strategic Marketing, Marketing Research, Electronic Commerce, Banking Practice n Management, Banking n Investment, and many others =o)
-Opportunity to learn from all perspectives there is to general management.
-Interest plays a major role, i tink i wont fall asleep in any management lectures

I can't decide which side to go for, but currently inclined to BBA due to its broad selection of management modules as compared to the narrowly focused and specialised accounting & finance degree, despite the poorer job prospects. Any benevolent smartasses out there to drop me some opinions? wud appreciate that =p Time to do some comments dropping pples.

Overseas Qualifications

Wow, this blog is still here, cool. Life has been consuming all of us lately and it seems to me no one is going online for the blogging activities anymore! It's always the assignments, assignments and assignments when we go online. Uni life sux, yet interesting it is.

Now one would wonder, how are our counterparts doing overseas in Oz and UK Universities? We doin some 6-7 subjects per sem in UBD and still living a relaxed-limteh-lifestyle. What about our friends overseas who only study 3-4 subjects per sem!? wtF? u heard me right. The original idea of degree courses was to have 4 subjects per semester, right into the cores starting from the first year. But what da heck is in the mind of UBD runners to put some 12 compulsory subjects on a year's load? not even speaking of medicine undergrads, but the little, relaxed, business faculty (Fbeps).

Was it ever worth spending the money for some 100-200k (expenses included) branded degree from an Australian or UK University? Dont mention if it's some government funded scholarship. However, I wonder if they really earn it back..sending a few hundreds of them overseas each year, at least a few million are to be spent on tuition fees alone each year for each fresh batch! wow. Furthermore, the scholars are guaranteed employment upon graduation, the govt has the responsibility to keep them employed and paying them according to the govt salary scale. I'd say they never will earn the cash back, but in return, the upgrading of locals' academic status as compared to old times where the educated are mostly foreigners =p and most importantly, the lifting of living standard.

Enuf with the govt, i don't wana go to jail yet. Speaking of educating yourself overseas, do you think you will ever make it back? How long will it take to payback and breakeven. i wonder. a 100k degree will take a $2k/mth fresh grad appx 4 years to breakeven. BREAKEVEN only, and 4 years means by NOT eating anything and all expenses not covered! for a better estimation, we take 50% off for foods and expenses. well...8years...wth?

Not ignoring the fact that one could get promoted or rise to fame and get signed to taiwan film industry..duh..but there are possibilities of nt getting a freaking job at all, so it's squared off at least =p yeah 8 years is still my estimation to breakeven a 100k degree. (A UK 3 years honours degree/aussie 3 years general degree, plus living expenses, exceeds 100k for sure)

Those spending on UK or Aussie medical studies lagi chialat, their tuition fees are at least 2xs the normal courses'. But they get paid at least 2-3xs a normal graduate as well upon graduation =p I'd say they wud breakeven faster than normal graduates. Those self-financed undergraduates in UBD's Institute of Medicine shud hav no prob with the financial pressure of the 3 years medical degree overseas after UBD =p (altho with 18k per year for the 3years post-medical degree in UBD alone is quite heavy) Anyhow.. it still sounds PITW (pain in the wallet) to me...

However, it's a complete different story if one is planning to stay overseas upon graduation. A UK or Aussie degree can bring you far. In reality, it's aussie which is easier to settle down in, their PR status are relatively easy to get upon graduation, provided u did 2 years full time study over there. Salaries can go unbelievably high, a McD-ian earns AUD$7-15 per hour..wat do u expect...here? $1.5/hr the max...well, you can always save on foods and expenses, provided the number on the paycheck you receive monthly is huge enough! You can breakeven in no time! Way to go Taze~ get married with xiang over there, lol.

Gift-Square

When was the last time u stepped in a gift shop, thinking of what to get for your bestfriend's birthday, or for ur loved oness during valentine's day? It has always been a pain in the ass (Pita) for me when i have to get the best stuffs at the best price.

Some of the famous local giftshops for grabbing gifts such as the Xplorer, Ego, Euroclassic and many more around gadong area really have some cool stuffs to offer. However, you might spend the whole night circling around Gadong area and not get your gifts for your loved ones yet! Plus, the gift-boxes on display always cost too astronomical of an amount.

Trouble arises when u think the plastic bag from "Hua-Ho" department store seems too ungifty to be presented as gifts, the journey to the best plastic wrapping bag in town begins....all those walking and thinking will drain ur soul in no time. How about running from one shop to another looking for the perfect couple necklace or couple shirts for your loved ones? tiring i'd say, at least it is in Brunei.

Now, it can be embarrassing if you bump into someone wearing the same design you both got locally. Imagine the person u bumped into being your work-mate or school-mate. An uglier condition would be a couple bumping into another couple with the same accessories wore. =O! is the natural response..

No worries, pay a little visit to Gift-Square, an online blogshop providing "Limited-Edition" gifts & accessories. You can shop for gifts with a click on your mouse anytime, anywhere. How nice can that be? With Deliveries done on a weekly basis and requested door-to-door deliveries available. Categories are divided into:
